TearCare for dry eye

A wearable eyelid-heating system used with clinician-performed meibomian gland expression.

What is TearCare?

TearCare is an in-office system designed to deliver controlled heat to the eyelids while allowing the patient to keep their eyes open. A clinician then expresses the meibomian glands.

How it works

Flexible heating devices are placed on the eyelids. After warming, the clinician evaluates and manually expresses gland contents.

Potential benefits

  • Soften obstructed meibomian gland secretions
  • Allow targeted clinician expression
  • Improve signs and symptoms of evaporative dry eye for some patients

Risks and limitations

  • Temporary discomfort, irritation, redness, or blurred vision may occur
  • It may not help when gland loss is advanced
  • Repeat treatment may be needed
